I have been trying to lay my hands on this book for a long time, but fate smiled at me only now! So yeah, Live from London by Parinda Joshi is a light-hearted read, that is sure to brighten your mood any day.
Plot:
The plot is just simple. A freaky and crazy Nishi Gupta is a twenty one year old Liberal Arts student at the University of Westminster. A passionate guitarist and singer, she gets an opportunity to get straight onto the stage of Britain's Got Talent. Will life be the same for Nishi? Get your copy to find out that!
Highs:
To say that the book was refreshing would be an understatement. It was a huge welcome change from the regular campus capers, that have bored me to death so far! Parinda has done her homework well, because she has captured the music scene in UK and USA quite accurately. And the supporting characters lend extra charm to the story. There are chuckling moments too, running throughout the book. Nishi and Nick's romance is realistic. I especially loved the scene when they first meet at his launch party. But Nick, apart from his musical talent, isn't much of an impressive character(except being cheesy and romantic!). This comes across as a sharp contrast to Nishi, who is a talented, determined and witty protagonist (Unlike the dumb and lame female leads that we get to read in many books!) "Opposites-attract-each-other" logic eh?
Lows:
The story gets predictable most of the times-Be it when Parinda and Nick meet each other or when pop singer Kelly is introduced, the reader can effortlessly guess that they would hook up with each other. And I was also able to predict that Nishi would win the auditions and get a new lease of life soon.
Bottom line:
A tale of urban romance, with enough ingredients to keep you entertained. Thumbs up to Parinda Joshi, for debuting with an uber-cool book.
Rating- 3/5
